Why Mobilize Scar Tissue?
Scar tissue becomes involved in a lot of health and pain conditions.  When prolonged inflammation damages the connective tissue scar tissue is formed. This can restrict movement, blood flow, compress nerves and even lead to malnourishment of the surrounding tissues and structures. The healing process slows down, weakness sets in, posture can change and chronic pain and dysfunction is established.

Gua Sha Scrapping is designed for soft tissue mobilization targeting scar tissue and adhesions. The instruments effectively break down fascial restrictions and scar tissue. The ergonomic design of these instruments provides the clinician with the ability to locate the restrictions. This allows the clinician to treat the affected area with the appropriate amount of pressure, due to square surface concept.

Scar tissue mobilization causes re-absorption of inappropriate fibrosis or excessive scar tissue and facilitates a cascade of healing activities resulting in remoulding of affected soft tissue structures. Adhesions within the soft tissue which may have developed as a result of surgery, immobilization, repeated strain or other mechanisms, are broken down allowing full functional restoration to occur.

What can be treated?
Tendonitis | Frozen Shoulder | Joint Contractures | Scars | Trigger finger | Shin Splints | Hip / Knee | Replacement Scars | Chronic Sprains and Strains | Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome | Carpal Tunnel Syndrome | Thoracic Outlet Syndrome | Back / Neck Pain | Sacroiliac Pain | Hammer Toe Pain | Morton’s Neuroma | Plantar Fasciitis

How are the Treatments Done?
A session may last from 15 to 30 minutes depending on the location.  Typically heat is applied first to help soften the tissue before mobilization.  After the treatment the patient will be shown exercises to help keep the released tissue moving.  Scar tissue mobilization is usually done one time per week and it usually takes 8 to 12 sessions for lasting benefits.  Soreness in the treated area is expected for the next 24 hrs after each session.
